PWRtuned is Snap-on’s patent pending technology that goes beyond basic speed settings to provide professionals with maximum control of their power tools. These settings take into account the real-world fasteners and work technicians deal with every day. PWRtuned gives techs the ultimate combination of power, speed, and control. PWRtuned was developed for technicians because Snap-on acknowledges their customers are professionals, through and through. This technology reduces the risk of accidental cross threading, broken bolts, or broken parts from over torquing. These output settings let technicians get more work done in a day. With PWRtuned, techs are able to rely on and trust their tools to let them fly through their work.

How it works

Instead of a low, medium, high approach, the traditional speed settings are now application-based settings or “tunes” to choose from.

SETTING 1

This setting maximizes the free-speed RPMs but cuts the power as soon as torque is detected. It is especially useful for things like valve cover bolts, oil pan bolts, wheel nuts, or head bolts. The capacity for torque cut out will vary depending on the model of impact gun, but the idea stays the same; run fasteners down quickly and then cut the torque as soon as they are seated. This helps prevent breaking cast engine covers, cracking plastic manifolds, or damaging parts from not releasing the trigger fast enough. It gives you control without sacrificing speed.

SETTING 2

This is a “daily driver” or everyday setting. It adds an extra level of protection against over-torquing while keeping techs productive, using two modes.In the first mode, technicians can run fasteners down at full speed. As soon as the fastener seats or the impact mechanism engages, the tool switches to a reduced output state. This is great for things like subframe bolts or rack and pinion bolts, where rust, dirt, or debris can cause binding. Instead of snapping a bolt or damaging threads during installation, the impact gun automatically backs off the torque.

If more power is needed, techs can quickly release and pull the trigger within three-tenths of a second to get higher torque in the second mode. As long as each trigger pull stays within that window, the impact gun will continue to deliver optimal output. If the technician waits longer than three-tenths of a second, the impact gun reverts back to the first mode. This allows power to be added when needed without over torquing and eliminates the need to change power settings in the middle of a job.

SETTING 3

In this setting, the impact gun outputs full power 100% of the time and the technician utilizes the trigger position to control it. For some techs, this is preferred. The power of PWRtuned technology is that it accommodates all sorts of tech preferences. One key feature to also keep in mind is that any impact gun that features PWRtuned will have completely independent forward and reverse settings. This eliminates the need to constantly change between settings with awkward trigger pull sequences that needlessly slow down repairs.
